Black Diamond Medallions on 2012's
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:53:21 PM »
I'm looking to buy my third Avalanche and want the Black Diamond to ride into the sunset on.  My local dealer called to say he had one just come in.  I went to look at it.  It was an LS with a BD medallion.

I thought the Black Diamonds were going to be only the LTZs.  That it was an LS made me suspicious.  Then, we I asked for an LTZ Black Diamond they couldn't locate one already built and they couldn't build one to my specifications because Chevy doesn't have the 2013 build site up yet.  They tried to tell me they could do it on the 2012 build site.  I left and said I'd be back in September.

UPDATE from yesterday.  I did some checking and found all the 13's are Black Diamonds.  Early ads promoted upgraded grills etc.  I looked at an LS BD at my dealer last Saturday.  It looked like a 12 with the BD medallion where you would normally see the LS.

ANOTHER UPDATE (August 8, 2012): Here's a few quotes I found:
"Model year 2013 is the final year for the Chevrolet Avalanche. To commemorate the event, Chevrolet is offering the vehicle in an exclusive Black Diamond Edition in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels. Special equipment on the vehicles include Black Diamond badging, rearview camera system, color-keyed exterior body treatment, ultrasonic rear park assist, fog lights, power adjustable pedals, and unique paint colors. These include White Diamond, Silver Ice, Blue Topaz, Black, and Fairway Metallic. The Avalanche's sibling, the Cadillac Escalade EXT is also ending production after this year. Both vehicles found a popular niche with consumers shopping light duty crew cab trucks, but wanting more of an upscale sport utility design."

" Chevrolet is ending production of its Avalanche pickup truck after model-year 2013 and releasing one last edition to celebrate. The model's swan song is the Black Diamond Avalanche, which features body-colored bed surrounds and a unique badge on the sail panel. The model caps an 11-year run for Chevrolet's crew-cab pickup."

"Along with the Black Diamond additions, a backup camera, rear park assist, power-adjustable pedals, fog lamps and remote start will be added as standard equipment on model-year 2013 LS models. LT models also get a standard backup camera this year. According to Chevrolet, base prices also have been reduced by $2,500 with the two-wheel-drive Avalanche LS now starting at $35,980, plus a $995 destination charge.
According to Chevrolet, more than 580,000 Avalanches have been sold since its introduction in 2001 for the 2002 model year, but its popularity has waned during the last few years."

"Although Avalanche sales have tapered off in recent years, as crew cabs have grown to dominate Silverado sales, we know there are many Avalanche enthusiasts among Chevy customers. The Black Diamond Avalanche is our way of saying 'Thank you' and making it just a little more attractive to own one more Avalanche." Mark Clawson, Avalanche marketing manager, said in a statement."

Gotta ask, is the emblem the only added feature to the Black Diamonds or are there more changes made. The fact that they are on LS models as well as LTZ sounds kinda fishy. I would think these would be more of an upgraded LTZ model. Gotta wonder what the price difference between the BD's and non-BD's are.

Either way enjoy the truck :victory:

linky thingy
thanks.

From the link
"The 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche celebrates the best--and the last--of its kind. The name was inspired by "black diamond" ski trails--those intended for expert skiers who understand their complexities and can navigate the difficult terrain. In the same spirit, the Black Diamond Avalanche was designed for true driving enthusiasts--people who can appreciate the vehicle's versatility and take advantage of all it has to offer. Every 2013 Avalanche will be adorned with a Black Diamond commemorative badge and be available in up to 5 colors (depending on model/package)."

Its not about the marketing.  It is all about the fuel economy.  People love the Avalanche, but they need the entire fleet to hit a certain average MPG.  With all those big trucks and the corvette and camaro, there just aren't enought Volts to even it all out.  Something had to give and unforttunately it was the avalanche.  Until they get a car that runs on water, or find a way to consolidate the work truck lineup, there is no hope of a vehicle like ours in the near future.
