Rear Window frame srinkage
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:03:01 PM »
I know this is an old story for most based on the research I have done so far, I have an 09 AV and the rear window frame has shrunk and cracked. Basically the resin frame that contains the glass is made of some form of thermo setting resin/plastic that continues to shrink over time, I now have a 25mm gap in the glass frame and two more cracks appearing in the bottom corners, I am lucky, based on the research on the net and from older postings that i have notice it while the truck is still under warrantee.
I contacted the dealer and they are shipping me a replacement FOC, however the real question here is how long with the replacement last?? Has the manufacture done anything to address the issue? ( not found anything on the we yet)

It will last untill it shrinks, lol.   Ok fine , probably about as long as the first one did, there are a lot of variables there though, sunlight and heat are killers.  JBWeld can be your best friend and its good the dealership is taking care of it for you!  Since this problem has existed for quite some time and yours is a 09 it doen't sound like they (GM) have addressed this problem, (thats where the JBWeld comes in)!  Mines an 03, replaced under warranty as well.

I will try and keep hold of the old one when they replace it, this way I can practice the suggested repair method you mention.
I guess with the location I live right now it won?t last long, maybe by some mythical act GM might have tried addressing the issue since my window was orignaly manufactured!! ( wishful thinking on my part!!)
