Topic: How do I get to the 3rd brakelight bulbs?

My 3rd brakelight is out on my 2002 Avalanche, so I tried replacing the bulbs, and when I removed all of the screws that holds the plastic to the truck which has the 3rd brakelight, that piece refused to budge and it seemed that if I pulled too hard, some sort of tabs would break towards the top of that piece which is mounted to the roof of the truck. Is there any way I can easily remove this piece to get to the 3rd brakelight?

The top front edge of that piece is also double sided taped on. If you can get under it and GENTLY work it loose, it will come off. The under side of it has some body clips that hold that part on. You may be able to find some of those at a parts store or use more red 3m tape to hold it back on down there also. You'll need the red 3m tape to reinstall the top piece when you put it back on.

As said above dbl stick tape is on top plus the screws on top and 2 on the bottom. The 02 3rd light is Neon. IPCW and Pilot make new 3rd brake lights for the avalanche.  There will be 2 clips held in by screws on eather side of the light..

On my 02 I found a strip of LED's that I put in the factory housing. The strip was about $30.00 then it took me about 2 hours to do the work..
