Topic: Should I go synthetic now, or wait til my next oil change?

I got my '07 Av from an individual who had the truck for 5,200 miles. I assume they had changed the oil once, but don't know for sure. My light just came on for needing an oil change (about 7000 miles). Should I go ahead and use synthetic like Mobil 1 on my first change, or should I use a standard 5W-30 for this change and start with Synthetic on the next change. I've heard you shouldn't use synthetic on your first change, but I'm like 90% positive it had had at least 1 oil change. What does everybody hear use, and why?

Adding it on the 2nd may be true but not sure. I think ive read the same thing somewhere but having 7K already,your engine should be cured and ready for it.

It won't hurt a thing to use synthetic. Quite a few cars, the Vette to name one, come from the factory with Mobil 1.

I agree.  If you want to run synthetic, go for it.

We use the synthetics in both of our trucks, including the Silverado, which we have had since new.

I have used Valvoline's synthetic since new in this Av, the GMC Sierra and the S-10 I had before it and haven't ever had any problems. The S-10 had 218K on it and the person I sold it to has put another 75k the last I heard.

Wow! another 75k?  gotta love the s-10's. I used to drive a '89 GMC Jimmy 4.3 V6. Very reliable with 150k in it :thumb:
