Oil Consumption
« Reply #30 on: January 26, 2012, 03:53:44 PM »
I just got my first 2000 mile oil check done and they said I was a quart low. I was somewhat surprised by this because I checked it the other day and it didn't seem that low.  Since I am standing here waiting for my truck, since they put a quart in, I am not sure what they plan to do next. I am sure ordering of parts will be first.   Stay tuned.

Ok, so how is it written?  A quart low at 2000 your fine or  a quart low at 2000 miles you have an issue??  They just said I was fine but we'll do the test next oil change too.  How do you measure a quart plus a smidge anyway??

next time before you take it in, loosen the drain plug for about 3 seconds then tighten it back up.

Picked up my truck today with a brand new engine installed. They said that it was worse than expected (metal shavings and particles in the oil pan) when they were initially replacing the pistons and rings so they opted to replace the entire engine. It took a couple of weeks due to weather and power outages but well worth the wait in the long run.
Best of luck to the rest of you experiencing the same issue.

I finally was able to get a repair after going back to have this looked at several times.  I started having the oil issue on my '07 around 36k.  I had heard it all.  I had one service adviser tell me that GM was redoing the owners manual to show the new rules about oil consumption and that the new manuals were already in the '12 escapades.  This was the same guy that told me that the drive line lube repair (feels like someone hits you from behind while sitting at a stop light) was a /maintenance item.'

Anyhow, I just got my rig back out of the shop with new pistons and rings and a new repair for the drive line (I'll have to get more info about the latest for this one), and a new instrument cluster (message area and PRND32 area went out completely).  The new cluster sucks because it saved my engine hours but got rid of how many gallons of total fuel I had used over the lifetime.

We will see how the new pistons and ring thing works out.  My adviser told me that if this doesn't work they will replace the engine, that is the only other fix.  Since I have already had my tranny rebuilt it is almost like a brand new Avy!
