You can go the expensive route and buy a premade kit from someplace like Painless or the el cheapo route like Didit and myself did. Buy the cables from a stereo shop and go to Harbor Freight and get a battery isolator that you manually turn on or off. I'll try to get pix up when I get a chance.
Ok so this is what I got so far. I'm gonna need some 4 guage maybe 0op power cables about 10-12 feet of it. A volts guage. Another battery and a battery tray. Some clips and connectors and the isolator. The ISO has to be double the output of the alternator so it doesn't blow the relay when it is switched to dual mode. the primary battery will be devoted to starting and running the truck. The secondary battery will be for my accessories. I'll have the after market volts guage hooked up to it and if I see it is getting below 11volts I switch the ISO to dual mode and it recharges the battery to 14-16 volts and then switch it off.... Correct?SENT FROM MY EVO 4G
Im sorry but is "ISO" = "isolator"? Double the output? you mean double the voltage? or amps? I picked up a stinger 80 Amp Isolator/Relay from a Car audio shop plus some 10 feet of 4 guage and a 60 amp AGU fuse. I want to go the same route you're going project black out. Just not eactly sure how to do this... Looking for those guiding pictures haha I still need a voltmeter though, what's yours look like btw? Also need to get a tray and a in cab switch.
You want your batteries to match so they will charge evenly. Ask the guys at the local stereo shop about it.I just went with a Harbor Freight battery isolator. $10 for a 100 amp one. I get under the hood every now and then to flip it to charge just to keep it up there. I'm off tomorrow and put pix of this on my todo list. If I wasn't gone from 12 - 16 hours a day for work, I'd have pix already up for you.
Here's a few pix from my phone. Notice the bolts on the 2nd battery. Those also came from the stereo shop I bought the 4ga wire from. 2nd and 3rd pix shows the isolator in the off and on positions.Last pix shows it attached at the junction box.Sent by my Atrix 4G
Ok so just to be clear. You have the second battery positive terminal going to the isolator and then from there to the alternator junction box and the negative terminal going to a chassis ground... Correct?SENT FROM MY EVO 4G
Below is the information regarding the auxiliary battery tray, screw and clamp.Passenger side battery tray (auxiliary): GM #15246518 (Old #15705102)Screw: GM #11509853Clamp, V: GM #14005061 (Old #356668)
I think I paid about $40 total for all the above parts at a dealer and that was without any discount.
