2500 AVALANCHE - h1 WHEELS?
« on: October 09, 2011, 05:27:27 PM »
ok nub QUESTION,

What is needed to fit the 35" H1 wheels on a 2500 Avalanche, Had it up at Rausch creek in PA in stock form, WHAT A JOKE! in order to ever go there again i need a bit more clearance on a married man's salary
so with this known, what are my options,,as i truly figured that the H1 swap would probably be most cost effective to give me my best bang for my buck! So lift's for the most part i can not see as a viable option, School me as i am truly ignorant in the ways of Offroadin   banghead1

You will need to bring the front end up at least with a leveling kit. BigBlockBirch had a set of H2 wheels on his and I'm pretty sure he had leveled the front previously.

I was at Rousch a couple of years ago.  I only had my upsized tires, nothing more.  At least one other was running completely stock on a 1500.

a married man's salary

OBB and Mav,
You need to read between the lines...It's not that he "needs" them but his wife needs to think that he needs them.

Shytown,
H1 wheels have a different offset than the 2500 stock wheels.  I ran H2 wheels with the front cranked 1.5" and the back had spacers.  The H2 has the same offset as the forged wheels but are 17"x 8" vs 16" x 6.5".  It allows you to run a wider tire without it looking like a fat lady in a girdle.

They improved the ride dramatically.  I was running, BFG 265x70's.  To run 285's I would have had to get ford keys and crank it higher or cut the the inner wheel well where they were rubbing.

If you "need" to go bigger, My suggestion would be a light lift so to save some ride.  The more you crank the bars the stiffer the ride will get.

"I ran H2 wheels with the front cranked 1.5" and the back had spacers." so that was lifted correct, lifted the fron 1.5 inches but just put spacers on the rear? ok what about the 6 lug to 8 lug? or are the H2 wheels 8 lug?

What does this mean? To run 285's I would have had to get ford keys and crank it higher
And cutting the wheel wells? how much would need removal? I am sorry guys, I am so new that I have not learned the lingo, the language is like trying to learn chinese, I am mechanically inclined, just am 42 yrs old and am refinding myself since last racing Motocross in the 90's, I am so embarressed of my Rausch creek FAIL, that to show my face again there would just be to terrible. So until i get a specific rig for such a thing, i will put a few dollars into this truck to see if this offroading thing, STICKS!
Thanks in advance.

I have 285 75 16 on my 2005 with the torsion bars cranked up and no clearance issues at all. the ride isnt that bad either I actually think it rides really good. it really leveled the front out with the back so it looks much better.

The H2 wheels are indeed 8 lug. They'll bolt right up.

Sorry Dano,

The "key" is the thing that turns when you crank on the torsion bars.  Ford Keys have a steeper angle so you get more lift with less turns.

The spacers were for the rear to push the wheels out.  2500 rear axles are narrower than the front axle.  By adding the spacer, you get them sitting the same width.  It improves handling and also looks a lot better.

My suggestion to you is to drive the avy and pick up a Jeep for Rausch...  It will be more capable with less investment and is a heck of a lot cheaper to fix and wrench on...

I think your right, As i would really like to have all the wheels and such to have my AVY looking sweet, it is my daily driver and I really dont need the warden barking orders at me in a negative way that she is so capable of doing
Thanks for the info as of far.

That was my plan originally so I bought a 2005 Jeep Rubicon...and haven't seen the woods with it yet.  MzBBB (aka TTT) took custody of it and won't let it see dirt...
