Question Deciding On Projectors
« on: August 24, 2011, 01:53:12 PM »
I want to change the head lamps in my Avy. Now, I'm a big fan of projectors and I would like to have that on the Avy. I've searched ebay and I came to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SILVERADO-AVALANCHE-HALO-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHT-LED-BUMPER-/350486617002?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item519aa15baa

My question is, how bright/reliable would this set be, would I have high beams, and if these are not a good buy, what would be a better buy?

Member OverRated is pretty big into lights. Hopefully he'll see this post and chime in. I know Bluedevil had a set in his before and didn't like them.

WHERE IT REALLY IS ABOUT THE FRIENDS AND AVY'S, AND NOT THE ALMIGHTY ADVERTISING DOLLAR!

The output for those projectors you linked are fine. I've seen a few members here using them. I cant remember who it was, but someone tried to use a HID Kit on them and did not like the light output and he ended up just sticking with halogen.

Edit: actually, its backwards, the halogen output was bad and a HID kit was needed to improve the output.
You can read about it here: http://www.chevyavalancheclub.com/index.php/topic,7775.0/all.html Look for bluedevil's post (4th post)

So I wouldn't be able to have the halo look unless I add HID?

Also make sure you have the naked (non-cladded) AV.

I have the naked Avy. But is that what I'm going to need? The projectors and then the HIDs as well?

So I wouldn't be able to have the halo look unless I add HID?

The CCFL Rings, or what ever they use for the HALO/Angel Eyes look, use separate wiring. You can wire them up to your parking lights, your DRLs, or your low beams. Majority of people have them hooked up to their parking lights.

So, you dont need a HID Kit for the halo look, but you will need it for better light output on this particular lights

Sure, go for them if you want them. Hopefully Bluedevil will chime in and help with how we he wired his.

In the mean time, this might help on how to wire the Halo/Angel eyes:

Personally, I dont like stripping factory wires for headlights. I instead, buy extension cables, like a 9005/9006 extension, or make my own, which I use to strip or install a wire tap on.

I bought extensions from ebay and another website. Both seem to be identical in length. If you are curious, here is some on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9005-9006-Wire-harness-extension-connectors-male-female-/230456203507)

edit: type-o

Thanks for the tip and eBay link. That looks like something I will buy.

cool.

Just remember, that 9005/9006 extension is for the low/high beam bulbs. If you want to hook your Halo/Angel Eyes to your parking lights or DRL, you will have to search for an extension that uses that bulb type, or make your own by going down to AutoZone or something and see if they have the connectors...

Also I had a type-o in my last post regarding how bluedevil wired his, i typed "we" instead of "he"
