New exhaust on the horizon. Need input from the gurus!
« on: July 16, 2011, 08:07:11 AM »
Mornin, gents!

I'm starting the research on a dual system that exits straight out the rear. I'd love to stick with Cherry Bomb. They don't have a dual catback for our trucks, unfortunately. I did find a system for the 133" wheelbase silverado however. Our wheelbase is 130". I'm wondering if the 3" difference will cause installation problems, especially going over the axle, or if it doesn't make a difference at all. One more thing, it looks like the hanger locations are the same. Thoughts?

Custom is an option definitely still on the table. I have a vortex on her right now and I'm probably going to stick with that. I didn't put a true cherry bomb on there in the first place. Way too loud for me!  :cheesy1:

Although, I do like disturbing the peace in my own way!  :evil5:

I don't believe the fit will be very good with one not made for an Avalanche.  I believe among other things our fuel tanks are different and placed a little differently.

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

I'll have to agree with M1 I just had a magnaflow installed, wanted dual exhaust was going to cost a lot more as it would have been somewhat labor intensive. I wound up getting single out with twin tips, wasn't to bad $200.00 out the door.Seems a lot faster don't have any documentation just seat of the pants.I will try to post asound clip and pic tomorrow.

I had a local shop put on a Flowmaster 40 and run duels over the axle, around the spare, and two straight out the back with big old stainless tips.  Sounds great, looks great!

Now I'm really going to be looking/listening for you. At least I'll know its you if we pass on the road. This kind of weather I'm normally on my bike so if you see someone on a blue Harley pointing and waving its probably me. :cheesy1:

With the cut-out open on old-red, I wouldn't hear you on a Harley.   :coolsmiley:

FWIW: I just put a Magnaflow system on the Silvy and like it.  It's calm compared to the FM50 behind the cat-less Y on the AV but it lets you know it's there when you get in it's a$$.
2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.

Thanks for the input, guys. Much appreciated! I've changed gears on this, no pun intended...

I've decided on the FM American thunder system. Dual side exit. Not the rear exit, like I wanted, but it'll do well. My friend's '02 Tahoe has dual side exit with a 70 series muffler and I really like the sound. I know the thunder will be louder, but FM reports that it's still moderate. I guess we'll see after I get everything installed!

Thanks again!

Frankly, when I've ridden in AVs with FM 40 or Super 40 mufflers, I don't find them noticeably louder than my FM 70.

Are you talking about in cabin noise and drone? If so, that's good news. My friend's Tahoe had zero in cabin noise or drone. Which is actually much better than my vortex. That's really the only complaint I've ever had about that system...

Yes, although I haven't done nearly the miles in other people's AVs as I have in mine.

Bob, what is on my "new" AV?

The local thrifty muffler shop did it complete with the Flowmaster 40 for around $300+.  Don't have the exact figure at my finger tips....
