Overhead switch panel
« on: May 30, 2007, 06:31:32 AM »
One of the members of the Colorado Club has come up with this mod and is trying to offer them to other AV owners and make a few bucks too so I told him I would post the thread here for him.
Anyone interested that has trouble getting a hold of him can contact me and I will be happy to hook you all up.
This is a cool mod and he does a great job!

Hey guys, Just Jr told me there may be a few on here that would be interested in getting hooked up with this mod. 1st though, I have no idea what its going to take to do one for a sunroof cubby, I could get yours here and then work something out, but I dont have one to build up before. Pm me here and we can get things going. Im trying to get a order in to do several but I dont wanna buy extra switches as they arent cheap. As I mentioned on the other site, I will have to have you ship out your cubby to me or i can just build a plate up with or without switches and let you modifiy your own cubby. Let me know what you want and I can get you a price.

I really like that panel, but I don't know what I would used the switches for.  Could you make the Avalanche smaller font and put a switch on each side of it to fit with the sunroof controls?

We just may have to do that... all in the name of research and development, of course that would mean that you would get yours for less, being the prototype right. We may be able to work something out. Id like to see your new truck, hopefully we will be doing a GTG soon if nothing else, I should see it then.

Thanks everyone, Im glad you like it. I can make some for you if you want. I can ship the engraved plate for around $30. I could change the text on it to most anything you want. You would have to backlight and install switches yourself but that isnt too hard. I have sold a few with just the Avalanche Logo acrossed it and then they have back lit it. It looks really nice as well.  It would look really good on a red AVE with the plate backlit red. Anyway let me know, Its a cool way of customizing your rig...

those look great, but after all the time I spent getting my DVD player to fit in the upper cubby, I don't think it'll work with mine any more.

Chad, I have no problem sending my cubby over to you for research if you would like.  I'm looking at possibly 5 switches with just very minor illumination.  It would be to replace the emergency light switches on my center console.

Pondfly,
I may not need your cubby, it depends on which one you have. If it looks like mine I already have a really good idea, but if its one with the Sunroof controls, I am currently working on it. I know a few here that have it and have let me get measurments and am in the process of getting one done. In the first case 5 switches would be simple, in the sunroof case, its going to be reallllllllllllll tight, but tell me which one you have that way I can at least get some ideas down. Also, what do you mean by a little illumination? just a little text or what.

Thanks,
Chadster

Hey! what did you use for the cover? Placisglass? sorry for spelling im not sure how to spell that word! lol
I need a cover.... a cover that i will be putting like 4 switches in. but.... im not putting it in the top consel. im putting it in the top center consel of the two center cubbys below the radio. I have right now 2 buttons and 1 switch ran there. 2 buttons for my two different horns and 1 switch for my strobes but no cover to put them in. I like this idea and would like to make it my self. Im not looking to steal your idea to sell just want to use your idea for my self. could you PM me as to what you used for your cover/switch box? Please! iv been looking for something just like this but havnt found it. This is what i want and like i said im not trying to steal your idea...i love it and would like to build it myself. Im in michigan and theres no way i could come to you :(

Thanks in advance,
RonJ

I could make you a switchplate for the sunroof cubby, however it will not have the Ave logo, and depending on the size of the switches, there may not be room to put the switch ID's on. I may only be able to fit a smaller font which may be hard to see. Let me know what you are thinking about and if you want to proceed. Thanks so much for the interest. I have seen several of these installed now, in various locations, most very custom and everybody has had tons of comments on how great they look. I could send you several pics if you would prefer, either myself or other members have them on the CAFNA site as well.

Anyone have a picture of one of these switch plates on an Av with a sunroof?  This is exactly what I am looking for and would like to see how the sunroof changes the appearance.

Also, how is the wiring run from the ceiling console to the switched accessories?  I assume relays are used for the lights.

Looks good!

I bought one from Redleg a while ago and recently installed it to operate my strobes.  It's got 10 switches on it, and using 4 for the strobes (2 front, 2 rear).  Hopefully soon I will be relocating my underglow switch to mine, and make a switch to relay between regular horns and train horns.  Then I have 4 switches for something else...  gotta figure out what the "something else" will be...

I wanted this,.... but if i hook up the underbody neons to the courtesy lights, then i have no use for it.

And what if you want to turn on the underglow without the puddle lamps?

Thanks guys. I like yours for sure, strobin, but i think that I actually like the switch panel. I'm planning more lighting mods and dvd headrests. I'd like to have the option to shut down the dvd completely, when not in use. Plus, once I talk to the police, I'd like to do underbody and strobes. Well, if I'm not going to get in trouble for just having them on the truck. Oh, so many ideas. So little time....

Lots of members in MI have strobes and glow  :winkani: We'll just have to drag you out to a GTG and show you. MI is not far from me in Ohio and I'm usually up there 3-4 times a year.

Well, I just checked Chad's info. I'm not sure if he'll visit anytime soon. It said last active was Sept '08. I'll give it a shot though. What site does he sponsor elsewhere??

I have a center switchpanel made by him with avalanche in blue and all my switches marked also. Also have side switch panel for my train horns in which is not installed yet. I'm off the computer and on my phone if I remember tomorrow I'll post a pic of the center panel.

Done. But, I'm not going to expect anything any time soon. Strobin, did you make your panel? How difficult was it and can you put anything on it? Now I'm starting to think that I don't need the switches after all. I can find another spot for those. However I did get some ideas on what I'd like on it...

How about outlining something like this?

Or this? Just the logo though....

Both would have the mandatory "Avalanche" in the proper font, of course.

I got mine from chadster.  The large one is the center console.  I can't find a pic of it installed.  I have one somewhere.  The other is not installed yet.

Sorry all, been gone for a bit. My old email address was changed and I forgot the one that I posted on here. I will try to do better as far as keeping up on this site. Ive had tons of misfortunes in my personal life since starting building these and has really knocked the air out of me and has got me working double now to bring in the same income (self employed) so please be patient with me and together Im sure we can get what you need made.
