Topic: aftermarket stereo trouble!!! Help :(

  banghead1Soooo just got some extra money and am about to go buy a couple 12's and an amp for my 04 avy. my friend gave me a kenwood aftermarket radio that had a harness from walmart that fit the one that i pulled out of the old stock radio but when we hooked it all up it wouldnt turn on. he hardwired the radio to turn on through the 12 volt yellow wire which got the radio to come on, but there was no sound. i slipped on a diff harness stuck the radio in my friends 2000 silverado and it worked perfectly. never done any work like this but none of my friends can figure out why this is happening. anyyy help?

First off

If you're avy has the Bose system, you'll need a different adapter for it to work. The Bose runs on a data bus system that sends the signal to an amp. Do your speakers have the Bose logo on the covers?

Yeah i forgot to mention that.. I do have the bose system. Is that my problem? I have no idea.

Sorry guys been very busy these past few days...  You might have a Fact Amp that will need to be eather bypassed or turned on with I think a orange wire...

Enkie is right you will need to buy an adaptor. It's the Orange wire that sends a 1.5volt signal to the factory amp to turn on. The box will set you back about 150-180... Id pull my double din screen out n show you wat it looks like but its a nightmare putting it back in. Should be able to buy this box at any audio or customization shop

The Bose amp is under the console at the back of it. There's pix in my nav thread but I can link it from my phone. Ill try later tonight.

Your chimes wont work. If you want the steering wheel controls to work you'll need an adapter also.

I think the on* won't work either.... The deck I had before worked with it but since I put in the double din screen I lost it and the steering wheel controls :(

Kinda. I had a little bit of whine from the alternator  but for the most part yes it was fine... I recommend changing out the speakers tho. The stock bose can't really hold up to aftermarket decks out put

I would not say that The Stock speakers will handle the 10-22 watts that most Aftermarket radio's put out. As a matter of fact most have a good crossover in them and you can make the Bose or stock speakers sound about 75% better then with the GM radio.

With the radio crossover you can give the speakers a good cut off point and turn it up more without distortion..
