Topic: Anyone know how to remove a grille from a cladded avy? Installing a light bar.

Ok. So I want to install the grille led light bar I got for fathers day. I knew it would be a process running the switch wires to the cab and installing the switch. I thought it would be easy to remove the upper shroud and reach down and do the install. Wrong. I have all the light housings out and most of the rivits and clips undone. There are a couple of places where it is still attached but I can't see where or what it holding the grille still in place .....HELP!!

I'll keep looking to see what I can find but all help will be much appreciated.

Never mind I found where to grab and gently pull.....wow.....I wll definately post pics when done....May have wiring questons though for those who have theirs all lit up and switches on the inside.

I have mine wired in with the DRLs once I put it into gear they come on if you really want to mount a switch you could. I'll post pics of mine soon gotta hang out with the old man

That's what I thought about but the light bar has 2 modes ran by the one switch.......now just a matter of finding an easy way of running the wires for the switch.

Well after an hour of searching and not really wanting to drill a hole myself. I contemplated wiring directly to the headlights so the bar comes on at night, but if it is illegal to have it on while driving around here.....I have decided to have the light bar professionally installed. They may have to lengthen the 3 wires to the switch so they can put the switch where I would like it.

Missed this thread.  There's a gromet on the cladded avy's under the master cylinder that I ran a bunch of wires through. It comes into the truck right above the fuse block that's on the floor to the left of the brake pedal. I'll see if I have any pix.

This is where I thought about mounting it. Just to the left of the console under the 12v power.

This is the wiring we are dealing with.......I can take the switch off to feed the wires through but the problem is the size of the connectors.......

I was looking at that grommet but I didn't think I could feed it through it easily.

Another option that my wife thought of (plan C) was leaving it all under the hood. Splice into the headlights so that way when I have it on it only comes on with the head lights. There may be enough room to mount the switch on the fuse/relay cover under the hood by the battery. That way if I do want to change the operating mode or just shut it off I just pop the hood to access the switch....

I was thinking that especially if they need to be lengthend to put the switch in the console....I was feeling around that grommet earlier today thinking that was the way to go, and it does feel pretty tight already. Any tricks on getting the wires through without damaging the bundle?

I carefully ,VERY CAREFULLY, probed through it with a phillips screwdriver to make the hole and then pushed the wires through. They'll come through just barely above that previously mentioned fuse box and you may have to fish around for them.

Perfect......I know my brother has one......I will try next weekend but I will also price how much it would be to have it done just in case.

On my 02 below the vaccum booster there is a round cutout in the insulation on the firewall, I removed that round piece, drilled a hole (I think 3/4") with a hole saw and inserted a cable grip. This is where I ran the power wire for my amp. Hope this helps.

Well.....after looking around and a lot of Hmming and Haaing...I called a couple of places to see how much it would cost. I decided to pay to have it installed. $65 plus tax, It was worth it. They did a great job (much better than I would have done) and they told me since the control module wasn't completely sealed, the first time it gets wet it's done. They mounted it in the truck to keep it protecte and also tapped into the power inside the truck so the fuse is also protected from the elements. There were only 2 wires that they had to extend so all in all it was a good deal for me.
