Cam Number Duration @ .050  Valve Lift   Rocker Arm Centerline GT-1
LS1-GT1 218 / 229 .561" / .561" 1.7 ratio 113

Cam Number Duration @ .050  Valve Lift   Rocker Arm Centerline GT2-3
LS1-GT2-3 207 / 220 .571" / .578" 1.7 ratio 118.5

Here are the specs for the two cams.  M1 or MBT or someone else might chime in to give you the difference in terms better than I could.

The GT2-3 is a great cam for SC or NA.  It was right on the line for me to have the performance gain and still be a good towing application.  I talked to Justin at Black Bear and what I have is what he suggested.  Great advise because I like what I have running it or towing with it.

Personally, with a naturally aspirated daily driver I'd stick with the GT2-3. It remains a great, proven choice if you decide to go with forced induction later.

Likewise, for a naturally aspirated vehicle, M1 and I differ a little bit on opinions on a cam. I believe the GT1 would shift and extend the power considerably higher in the rpm range, which is not good if you keep the stock converter. It would tend to make the off-the-line acceleration feel more sluggish. You would also have to go to dual springs for it.

M1's cam and mine are the same; 216/224-0.551/0.551-115. To me this is about an ideal compromise, especially when you add a 2600-3000 stall converter. It keeps the torque down low, which is in reality what most of us that drive a truck are looking for and what we need to get a heavy-a$$ed truck like the Avalanche moving. It also extends the rpm range considerably higher than the 5500 rpm where the stock cam runs out of steam. I believe I'm currently shifting at 6300 rpm and the cam is still pulling like a raped ape. I don't want to go higher than this with the stock heads.

Last comment: you've got the right idea - do lots of research and ultimately make your mind up based on an informed decision.

Some of the difference in opinion is likely due in part to my main interest in adding power is passing on 2-lane highways, not taking off from a dead stop.

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

2-lane highway, what's that?  :fast:  Fortunately I don't have to drive too many of those any more. There's about a 20 mile stretch left between home and the farm and it's supposed to be finished to 4-lane by the end of this summer. That's the extent of any 2-lanes that I drive on a regular basis, other than the 6 miles off highway 36 to the turnoff to the farm.
