Just sand it down. No need to take brake fluid to it. You don't want it melting the plastic.

I dont need to strip it, just sand it?  am i right though about the 600 grit?  Ive never really painted anything before :P  i will however need to probably strip the 3+ coats of krylon fusion off of my bowtie if im going to put the undercoating on that as well.  thank you!

You're correct. Just sand it with the 600 and you should be good.

Hi Everyone!  Just wanted to update you all on where I am with line-x-ing my grille, Im not doing it, and thats the bad news.  The good news is, I'm actually stepping up and using duplicolor spray-on truck bedliner.  It goes on thin, so I should have no problems with it at all.

There were also a lot of different techniques out there, for when it comes to painting over chrome pieces.  But i stuck with it, and found one that seems to be a lot less of a hassle (versus using chemicals and what not).  I plan on using a scotch-brite pad to scuff the surfaces that I want to apply bed liner, apply 2 coats of duplicolor etching primer, then either a primer sealer, a coat or two of flat black krylon fusion (which requires additional funds), or just go ahead and apply 3 coats of DC spray on bedliner.  I will make sure to do a write up as well for it.

Thank you!
Jon
