Topic: Line-x-ing the powerbar

Hey everyone,  I heard from a friend on CarDomain that he plans to use line-x spray on bedliner on his powerbar.  is this a good idea?  Just wondering.  I plan on diminishing almost all chrome on my avy.  thank you!

now that i know im not crazy, i may just go try it.  maybe ill find a powerbar at carlisle that i can experiment with :P  any idea on how to prep it?  i would think a light sand, plastic primer, then the line-x.

wow, lol.  when it comes to me and painting car parts, its like a total shot in the dark; i know almost nothing about the painting process, apart from what i learned from my g/f's brothers, who are both restoring antique trucks (1972 Chevy K5 Blazer, 1979 International Scout II).

Ill keep an eye out for one at carlisle.  Thank you!

Hi everyone!  I did some thinking after looking at my avy this evening.  maybe i dont want to line-x the powerbar, but rather paint to match the body, then paint the bowtie black.  any objections?  the only reaso why i changed my mind was because if i line-x the powerbar (black) then what do I do this the bowtie?  i thot that what i can do is sand down the powerbar, use plastic primer, then undercoating, then on top a couple coats of maroon paint.  will that work?  will it look stupid?  i lack necessary cimputer software to picture the results bc i certainly cannot in my head :P

Like this?  Just remember to prep it good Paint and Chrome don't like each other. I would sand down all the Chrome first then a good primer

It's your truck man. Have at it. A suggestion on the power bar if you want it to color match though is to go to a shop that will mix the paint for you and put it in a spray can to match the color of the truck.

Thank you BlueDevil for the pic.  I actually copied it and negatized it to get a feeling of what mine would look like with the sport red powerbar and black bowtie.

OBB,  they will actually do that? mix a color and put it in a spray can for me?  thats amazing.  ill ask around and see if anyone in my area will do that.  thank you!

hey everyone!  I have not been on here in a while, and since the last time, ive painted my bowtie satin black (some of you may know...?)  anyway, i decided to change it up.  I going to take some brake fluid and stip off all of the chrome on the grille, clean it, scuff it with 600 grit, and shoot it with 2-3 coats of undercoating (same goes for the bowtie)  Ill take some pics as we do it, and be sure to stay tuned!
