Visiting your area this week
« on: April 03, 2011, 11:05:41 PM »
I'll be making my first trip to the south-east in a very very long time.

Vacation time is fairly limited and there's a lot of driving to be done done so I don't have the free time I'd like, but I would still love to meetup with anyone that's in the area.

Could change depending on the weather forecast but here's my current schedule and route:

Thursday: Leaving NJ and driving to Atlanta, GA. Not a lot of free time this day. (78 west to 81 south to 77 south to 85 west)

Friday: Day in Atlanta. Night driving to Charlotte, NC. Meeting up with Maxx6 AV around Greenville, SC for dinner. (85 east)

Saturday: Day in Charlotte, NC. Night driving to Richmond, VA. (85 north-east)

Sunday: Day & Night in Richmond, VA area.

Monday: Leisurely drive back to NJ. (95 north to 270 north to 15 north to 81 north to 78 east)

I know this is short notice but if anyone would like to get together please let me know.

I was just asking someone about you the other day. How many miles on the Camaro now? And I really have to laugh about your Monday

Leisurely drive back to NJ. (95 north to 270 north to 15 north to 81 north to 78 east)

Not even 17k on the Camaro yet. I had 17k on my 2005 Avalanche within the first month. Those were the days.

As far as 95. From Richmond to DC isn't too bad. But once we get to DC we're bailing and going around 95.

Well, Saturday could work depending on when you pass through Charlotte. Lord Aries is supposed to be moving into his new place here that day, and I said I'd give him a hand. Just don't know times yet.

Hopefully we can work something out.

Ok, trip is changing, here's the final schedule:

Thursday: Leaving NJ and driving to Williamsburg, VA. Afternoon/evening at Busch Gardens.

Friday: Day/afternoon at Busch Gardens then driving to Charlotte, NC.

Saturday: Day/afternoon at Carowinds then driving to Atlanta, GA.

Sunday: Day/afternoon at Six Flags Georgia.

Sunday/night and monday aren't decided for sure yet. Considering maybe hitting up Pigeon Forge and Dollywood or just heading back to NJ. Would like to see Stone Mountain and some other stuff in the Atlanta area too.

Hope you have a safe and fun trip. If you decide to hit Dollywood, Monday would be less crowded in the park and less traffic in and around Pigeon Forge. I-40 West from  Haywood County NC to Tenn line is a dangerous stretch. Lots of curves and with the high divider wall limited sight distances, just watch your speed in that area from mm 27 to the state line. It's highly patrolled and a no tolerance zone on speed because of the high number of wrecks on that stretch. There's a back way into Dollywood from I-40 exit at Cosby, Tenn that misses a lot of traffic and red light congestion if you would like to see some back roads.

Here's you something else to check out in that area if you have time:

Nope
I go:
I-40 west to Foothills Parkway exit
Left on Hwy 32 (Cosby Hwy)
Right on Hwy 321/73 towards Gatlinburg
Right on 416 (Pitman Center Road) this road is curvy but a scenic drive. There's a lot of the vacation cabins on this road.
At Stop sign at Birds Creek Rd make a left and go about 100 yds (there's signs for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge)
Turn Right onto Upper Middle Creek Rd (this will take you to the road to Dollywood entrance)
Stay on Upper Middle Creek Rd to go into Pigeon Forge on the back 5 lane running parallel to Hwy 321/441 through Pigeon Forge

There's very little traffic on 416 and you won't hit a red light until you pass Dollywood's entrance

Ohio, Illinois and Missouri this year too. They're on the list but no specific plans yet.

Going to try and do a trip every month or every other month.

Current weather forecast is showing 60% chance of thunderstorms for Pigeon Forge for Monday. If it stays that way we're going to skip it.

Will keep the travel tip in mind. I have driven on I-40 through there before but it has been a long time. I'm always up for avoiding crazy traffic.

From the looks of your first post I'm guessing a trip to Cedar Point is at hand if you're coming to Ohio.

Missouri?  LABOR DAY WEEKEND IS BRATFEST!!!
