Topic: Racks for the Avalanche. Custom or Snugtop? Updated....4/16

Well some of you heard that I might be getting a Snugtop.. A little beat up but in good solid shape... The problem is The canoe I have is 17 feet long and I would like to Balance it good when driving down the road..Here are some pics so you can see what I'm talking about...

I'm not useing the whole rack anymore. I can get away with just the End and the cross bar over the truck by the sail panel

Here is a pic of the Snugtop ..  The cross bars will be close

You could modify the topper by adding that middle rack in the back end of the topper and of course leaving the one on the roof of the AV too.

You saw that?  As I said it does need a little work but it will look good when done.. But back to the topic.. My rack won't work with the Snugtop. I would have to get a cross bar above the drivers door to balance it out. They do make those universal ones that clamp on to the truck.

Oh you have 2 bars in those pictures.  You may get away with it by adding those 2 on the snug top itself.

The one on the rear end may be higher to balance out the canoe.


Or skip the bar in the front end and i add the bar right above the rear doors.  That hump on the front end may be tuff to deal with.

The bracket I made that goes above the sail is useing the factory bolts on the sail. The same ones that the cap uses. and the bracket was flat on the top of the sail panel.  I could put some 6 foot angle bars on to the STop and bolt the cross bars to that. It should support the canoe...By the way the one I own is the Gray one. about 50-65 lbs I guess..

Those cross bars its prolly all you need.  The ones in the back may be adjusted higher?

got it today...As you can see it does need some paint work and maybe a little filler.. I think I am going to paint it the same as my Av but the rails the color of the silver on my hood and front bumper..
