iPod adapter installed
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:15:21 PM »
Part is the iSimple ISGM 575
Very simple parts, NO splicing needed

Radio removed and heater controls out of the way, Also the trim piece is removed (snaps out, scary as hell doing it to ) to run wires to under the cupholders in the console

Routing of the wires. I ran both the iPod and the Aux wires down the side of the little cubbies

Under the cup holders in the console

out the upper side behind the radio for the time being

This shows the amount of room behind the heater controls. I didn't put anything there but it may come in handy in the future

Instructions say to hook the new harness to the radio, then the truck harness and LAST to the adapter.

The arrows in this pix show where the smaller harness wire USED to be and how I rerouted it. I spent an hour trying to get that radio back in there with the two factory harness split around that brace. Always when adding an adapter you're losing room and have to make ways for that radio to fit.

Note the adapter wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked behind everything in the upper left of the pix. It's only partially wrapped in this pix to show location. It is wrapped up better. That will prevent movement and rattling.

Personal preference here. I chose to leave the wires under the cupholder. When in use She can just lift the cupholder and attach the device and leave it lay in the cupholder. (yes I cleaned that mess under there)

Out of sight, out of mind. She can actually leave any iPod under the cupholders and only remove it when she wants to add music to it.

Here's some more blurry pix of the radio with it hooked up. :needhug:

And, I checked it out. You can use the Rear Seat Audio to listen to and control the iPod while the front radio is on a different source.

Yes to both. You use the XM as the selector for the iPod but you can switch that channel between XM,iPod1 and iPod2.

Ok, Here's the killer......Twiggy's 'Droid also plays music using the iPod2 setting using the 3/8 adapter. It won't charge the 'Droid like my iPhone but it still will play her music. Only thing is you have to control the music from the 'Droid on the phone itself. It doesn't give you steering wheel controls like with an iPod

Haven't figured out how to assign a button to it yet. Will have one of the teenagers do that.  buck2 I used the "band" button to go to the XM and then the "Tune" dial to select it. We've got a 12 hour trip next month so I'm sure we'll have it figured out somewhere along the way. :cheesy1:

Look at the roof for the antenna. That's the first give away. IF, that has been removed, look behind the glovebox for the module. If it isn't there, you're out of luck.

look for the module behind the GB. I'm not holding a lot of hope if your radio doesn't see the XM module.

I just did the install (last Sunday) of the ISGM575 on my girlfriends AV, the install went well but I thought I had a problem because I couldn't find iPod on the HU so I called OBB and he said his install worked fine and didn't know what was going on with mine. I figured out that once you find XM by using the band button you need to rotate the tune knob pretty quickly to find iPod.  My install works fine now, user error or lack of knowing.   banghead1
I also ran the aux and the iPod wire under the cup holders, I think I'm going to modify the cup holders so the wires will be in (top) the cup holders with the cup holders pressed back in the console.

Thanks Mike!  Nice write up!!    :yourock:

I am going to be installing this weekend but I thought I would share how I am going to set it up. I too am going to run the wires to underneath the cup holders but I decided to modify my cup holder. Since the only iPod I have is my iPhone I wanted to be able to see the phone in case I needed to use it for directions or something of the sort. Here are pics on how I modified the cup holders, I just bought rubber grommets from O'Reillys and placed it in the hole to give it a finished look and the phone sits in there nicely. The other wire with the 3/8ths I think I will leave under the cupholder.

I am going to finish the install tomorrow or Sunday.

All done, phone sits in cupholder like previous pics. I decided to push the 3.5mm through since it fit now both of them sit nicely in the cupholder.

Thanks for the write-up.  :yourock:

Does anyone know if the iPod cable or the auxillary cable can be cut and spliced? I have both run under the cup holders as well but have the iPod cable coming out from the back of the cup holders, the cable is almost being crimped when the cup holder is put back in place. I would like to drill a hole and run the cable through the hole.

Thanks, FH.

Thanks, FH.
I don't know if I'd attempt it. There is a shield in there similar to coax like what most TVs use.

OK, I didn't even think about it being shielded.
Thanks

Updated pix. It even works with a Touch Screen Nav unit.  :dans2:
Great tune - awesome band... but was it ever determined if this will work if you DON'T have XM or never had it??

I almost had a psychic girlfriend, but she left me before we met.
