iPod adapter installed
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:15:21 PM »
Part is the iSimple ISGM 575
Very simple parts, NO splicing needed

Radio removed and heater controls out of the way, Also the trim piece is removed (snaps out, scary as hell doing it to ) to run wires to under the cupholders in the console

Routing of the wires. I ran both the iPod and the Aux wires down the side of the little cubbies

Under the cup holders in the console

out the upper side behind the radio for the time being

This shows the amount of room behind the heater controls. I didn't put anything there but it may come in handy in the future

Instructions say to hook the new harness to the radio, then the truck harness and LAST to the adapter.

The arrows in this pix show where the smaller harness wire USED to be and how I rerouted it. I spent an hour trying to get that radio back in there with the two factory harness split around that brace. Always when adding an adapter you're losing room and have to make ways for that radio to fit.

Note the adapter wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked behind everything in the upper left of the pix. It's only partially wrapped in this pix to show location. It is wrapped up better. That will prevent movement and rattling.

Personal preference here. I chose to leave the wires under the cupholder. When in use She can just lift the cupholder and attach the device and leave it lay in the cupholder. (yes I cleaned that mess under there)

Out of sight, out of mind. She can actually leave any iPod under the cupholders and only remove it when she wants to add music to it.

Here's some more blurry pix of the radio with it hooked up. :needhug:

And, I checked it out. You can use the Rear Seat Audio to listen to and control the iPod while the front radio is on a different source.

Yes to both. You use the XM as the selector for the iPod but you can switch that channel between XM,iPod1 and iPod2.

Ok, Here's the killer......Twiggy's 'Droid also plays music using the iPod2 setting using the 3/8 adapter. It won't charge the 'Droid like my iPhone but it still will play her music. Only thing is you have to control the music from the 'Droid on the phone itself. It doesn't give you steering wheel controls like with an iPod

Haven't figured out how to assign a button to it yet. Will have one of the teenagers do that.  buck2 I used the "band" button to go to the XM and then the "Tune" dial to select it. We've got a 12 hour trip next month so I'm sure we'll have it figured out somewhere along the way. :cheesy1:
