Very nice. I've been debating on how to put one in Twiggy's avy. I wasn't too big on the monitor idea as she uses the Garmin when needed and didn't want the camera monitor in the way. I like the layout. Nice write  up.

well i was thinking about putting it into the little slot below  the center dash vent.. wouldnt be too hard.. just need a dremmel and im sure somebody could figure out a way to secure it in there. (pressure, velcro, body hardener)

then for a power source just use one of the 12v outlets. just pop off the center trim piece and splice it into the back wires.
(this is a thought because i still want to hard wire my fuzz buster into my mirror)

It looks good, but I hate to be the bearer of bad news, it probably isn't legal and may get you a ticket.

Indiana License Plate Laws

North Carolina just passed a similar law and it will result in a $100 fine if stopped and ticketed.

Play it by ear and see what happens. If you would get pulled over solely for that purpose, play stupid. Or, Let's see if our member Letsindy pipes up. He's a LEO in the Indy area. Maybe he'll have some comments from that end.

The only reason I brought this up, I saw one in Advance Auto and was considering it few months ago. I saw the local news report about the new NC law and went and asked a friend on the NC Highway Patrol. He said it could get me a ticket if I put that one on. He said in NC even a completely clear cover over the plate can result in a ticket but he said they aren't actively looking for them. His procedure was if he pulled up behind you at a stop light or sign and saw something covering the areas on the plate (if he noticed it) he would probably use it to stop you to check things out. If you didn't show your butt and everything was OK you'd get a warning ticket and be asked to remove it, sending you on your way. He did say the local cops were the ones using it more than the Troopers.

gotcha! now im thinking of this.. what if i mount it  above the plate... like leave the plate alone and just pre-drill holes above the bracket... the plastic cladding would give it support and id simply put some washers and bolts and nuts to keep it in place.... like OBB said if i ever get pulled over and they mention it im gonna play the dumb card.

You could cut a bracket out of old decorative tag and attach to the tag bolt holes behind the tag and raise the camera up just enough to clear the "Indiana" and probably be OK if it will clear the tailgate when lowered.
