ipod in an '03
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:44:47 PM »
just bought an 03 and would like to be able to use my ipod.
I have the Bose with 6 disc in dash changer and nothing else.
Question : is there an adapter to allow me to use my ipod with this setup?

Member here 'Enkei' knows about this stuff more than i do.  He may be able to provide you some links or so.

Anywho, i found a link but i dont know how true or credible they are.

http://replacementradios.com/product_info.php?products_id=785

I recommend contacting any sellers via email or phone with questions before making any purchase.

Hopefully someone else chimes in for ya ;)

welcome to the site brotha glad to have ya!

i also  have a 2003 with the factory H/U.. here is a website that i highly recommend!
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_28003_iSimple-ISGM575.html

this is a real simple plug n play system!.. only serious modifiction that you have to do is drill a 3/4 hole in your glove compartment for the cord that will connectto you ipod..

controls are easy! if you have the bose 6disc H/U then all you do after instalation is press the (aux/cd) button twice and you will have full control over your ipod (FWD RWD pause PLAY ext....) hope this helps...

not a problem its wat were here for!

its a real simple system too! i helped my buddy install this on his EXT and its a 2 beer job lol

had to take the radio and heating controls out... after that it was just pluging n tucking! lol now if you dont want to drill a hole in your glovebox for whatever reason the ive also seen them set the i pod in the upper compartmen of the dash. (2 spots above the cup holders) now youll still have to drill the 3/4 inch hold in the side for the cable but the kit comes with a really cool gromet that you can plug that hole up after drilling and instead of a 3/4 inch hole all you see is a gromet with a cord for your ipod! but we decided to put it in the glove compartment.... cant even tell its an i pod!!! looks like your working a cd!

Will this also keep the iPod charged while in use? I wonder how well it would work in mine with a factory nav unit. If it doesn't do what I want, I can always install in it Twiggy's '05 with the factory Bose system.

Edit note. It shows it replace the PAC Audio adapter. I wonder if that's just from that site selling product. I currently have a Pac adapter for my B/U camera. I'll be running out of room before long if I keep adding adapters.

yes it will! it runs off of the radios memory power wire (keeps the time and your presets from wiping out when you turn the truck off)

now we actually plugged in several ipods and they all worked and charged!

1 ipod shuffel
1 ipod touch
1 ipod nano

now im not too sure if the old click wheel will work but im almost positive it will!

I wonder if the iphone works too.   I imagine the iphone will pop that annoying message with 'this accessory is not compatible' with the iphone.

i know exactly what you mean!!!!! its a tight fit but instead of tucking the box and the wires behind the radio we did it under the heating controls!!!!!! plenty of room if you tuck it into the passengers side and just becareful when you put the H/U back in and the heating control dont wanna pinch anything... but yea plenty of room under the heating controls!

Going to order one now. I better check a little deeper to see if it will think my iPhone is a normal iPod. The other thing I'm sure will work is passengers in the rear seat will be able to select that "channel" in the radio and listen to it back there through headphones so they can listed to their "music".  :uglystupid2:

it does lol... (the device you have pluged in will not work with this device)  :uglystupid2:

it still works n charges... pandora is a little tricky to work with but the ipod is just like usual! but if you get a text or call you have to go back through and set up the ipod or internet radio app again... not too sure what happens but it doesnt want to go back to playing after a call or text

hmmmm.... that is a very good question! umm to be honest we never did check that out... if i had to guess i would say yes because if the radio can handel multipul inputs then so should this because its a factory intregration... umm give me some time n ill call my buddy up and ask him to see if the rear seats have control.

thanks for ALL of the replies.
I had read that with the factory 6 disc changer the ipod integration was not possible.
Going to order mine in the morning.

anytime brotha! when you do get it chime back in and let us know how it went or if you need help... mostly its just plug n play with a little bit of tucking... the only serious modicaction your gonn have to do is drill a hole either in your glovebox or the dash. other then that is real simple... :victory:

If it doesn't work in mine as I'm hoping, I'll end adding an Aux jack to mine. It won't have all the cool features but it'll be the same as I have when I use my phone on the bike through the radio.

nice setup .... I have the pac-audio one and I think this one is cheaper ....

only thing that drive me nuts with it is that it doesn't work 100% of the time .... I usually don't use my Itouch unless we are going on a long trip ..... have the time is doesn't realize I have it pluged in and goes right to XM .... other times it will go for days looking for my itouch when it is not even pluged into the end of the unit and you have to change it on the screen to jsut play XM ....  grrrrrrrrrrr!

otherwise I love the fact you can use the steering wheel controls with it and it still charges it ....

well my left channel in the isgm575 went bad. all it would play is static, sent it back and have a store credit with sonicelectronix.
should I get a new adapter or a new head unit?
BTW, what size is the factory 6disc H/U in an 03?

that was exactly what I was wanting to know.
I had read it was 1.5 din.
I trust this site more than the others.
thanx.

now I need to make up my mind as to whether I want to replace the head unit or try the 575 again.

I Bought the Isimple   isgm575  I don't use it with an I pod but use it with my phone I love this thing. I found it For like 35 with shipping on ebay. Awesome and easy to install in my opinion.

I must be destined to swap the factory head unit with an aftermarket.
I installed a second (brand new) isgm575 and less than a week later the AUX 1 has gone out.
when I switch to AUX1 the unit will switch to AUX2 on its own.
AUX2 will work BUT, I WANT both of them to work.
I prefer pioneer. any suggestions?
