Avalanche Tailgate

Hello fellow Avalanche drivers! I am new to the group. Welcoming advice from any and all...2 years ago, my father-in-law put a hole in the tailgate of my 06 Avie (trailer accident). My hubby and I have differing opinions on how important it is to get the hole fixed. I am desperate to get it fixed. It hurts my pride to be driving the kids to school with a hole in the back since most people assume it was my fault.

So...here's my question. Who knows the most economical way to fix the hole? Unfortunately, it is about 3"by 5" hole over the O of Chevrolet. Big surprise to me that the tailgate is FIBERGLASS!!! Anyone know where I can get the outside panel or do I have to buy a whole new tailgate? If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear from you...

With it being damaged right where the lettering is I think you're going to have to replace it. I would check around local salvage yards for a replacement and then have it painted to match.

I know I just saw a Tail gate for a Avalanche on Craigslist in this area.. I don't remember the year.. But I will look for ya..

a picture of the damage would be nice, its very possible if its ABOVE the letter O, that a simple repair job is in order, you can work wonders with fiberglass repairs!

Where are you in Nebraska? http://www.countylineautoparts.com/ is just east of Kansas City and they have 3 Avs in the lot.

As stated before, post up a pic of the damage and maybe somebody can give you some repair advice.

Most of the O is missing unfortunately so I think I am stuck with getting a new tailgate. Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out for me. I am still looking and weighing my options. I saw the black tailgate shell on ebay that would have been perfect had the damage not been on the O as well. Person must have done the same thing we did with ours!!! ARgh!!!!
One question though - does anyone know how hard it is to take the tailgate apart (if for example, I would find another shell and want to just swap out the fiberglass part???). (and I tried to add a picture and failed)...
