Self blasting train horns- Bad Pilot remote unit
« on: January 07, 2011, 04:18:04 PM »
If you have a Pilot remote accessory module controlling your train horns, don't mount it under the hood! Last year we took Sirshopolot's off and dumped a few ounces of water out of it. Last night a little after 10pm my train horn starts going off all on it own  Hope the neighbors didn't get too ticked :evil5:
After checking at the solenoid and finding out I had 12v there when I shouldn't have I know a switch was closed. Took apart the one on the dash as it had not been working. Wasn't that one (although I fixed that loose wire while I was in there) Then went to the remote under the hood which for the last 2 years has stayed dry. I had 12v coming out of it when I shouldn't have which told me it was shorted inside. Took it out and took it apart. The pix tells the story. I cleaned it up and plastered it with a dielectric grease after checking to make sure I didn't have continuity where I shouldn't have. It'll work for now but I will be replacing it shortly.

Ya know, that's probably why my glow kept coming on by itself.  My module is under the dash so it never got wet but still... Have to crack it open and take a look.

It took well over a minute to drain that tank and it wasn't even full.
