Low coolant?? and now this...
« on: January 06, 2011, 04:42:21 PM »
Guys the DIC gave me this message of low coolant as soon as I parked in my driveway today.  Could this just be as simple as low coolant or should I look for a deeper problem?

It was about 1/2" below the cold line while the engine was cold.

Doesn't seem like its down that much so hopefully it isn't a big deal.

Add a little and watch it. Also keep an eye on your temperature gauge.

So I get in my truck to leave work today, and right after starting my truck,  my Low engine Oil Light pops on.  So I immediatly shut off the truck and pop the hood.  Sure enough, dipstick is dry, I mean dry to the touch.  No oil had touched it since I don't know when.  Next, remove to oil filler cap, peer into the crankcase, no oil to be seen.  Didn't even look like to three seconds my truck had run had it pushed any oil up there.  Luckily, I was planning on changing my oil tomorrow, so I had fresh oil in my truck.  So I had a WHOLE quart, start her up light doesn't come back on, and I drive home.  Now, question, are there any common areas on the Avalanche that might leak or burn oil?  And by common I mean, is there a flaw that Chevy has previously warned about, or does the AV have any design problems, or cheap seals or gaskets???  Kinda worried right now.  Last night the Low Coolant Light, and now this??

Do these have the issue with the PCV sucking oil? The redesigned PCV orifice was listed as the repair on the TSB.
