Sail Opening covered?
« on: December 05, 2010, 10:11:33 PM »
Ok on the back of the av where the sails are where you can install the little led lights...is there any plastic tint covers i can use to cover that opening? im looking to close it off with a decent tinted plastic for a different look.

You mean like this?  Not easy to see here but thats called the sail panel window.. Many have been made in the past. But I have not seen them made in a while. Mine are etched and light up in the back..

Ps. That was Snow from last year...  Not this year...  Yet...

A Co called Snugtop makes them and sells them with the XUV Top for the Avalanche. But many members have built some of their own. These were made by a member back in 02..

You mean like this?

I fabbed them from Plexi with window tint on the inside. We purchased a used Snugtop that did not come with the sail panel windows. They can be bought from Snugtop to the tune of $300 for the pair.    I figured I could make something to fill the space. There have several people who have made their own versions. As far as I know no one is making them and selling them. The outside is not too hard to copy the shape, it's the inside that's a pain.

Both sides.  The outer side looks like glass and the inner side is solid raw plastic. Sandwiched together by 2 screws.

Mine were made by a club member who use to make them. I've had this set for about four years now. I may have them for sale in the future.  I may trade off my av for a new one next year and get the av with BCEC option and I don't know if the sail windows will fit.

They are designed if you have the Snugtop camper shell to seal up the openings to make the back end weatherproof.
