07/01 is the build date, so it was one of the first built. The stereo is the normal CD player Theftlock Delco Electronics, where do I look for the name/model no.? (If you need it). The connector is black & white that's all really. Thanks!
Nope.. Mine was in my driveway on 7/1/01.... God I miss my 02.... But anyway letssee if we can help ya.. (Oh and by the way don't forget we have a GTG on Dec 19th in the NJ/NY area hope you can make it....) By Metra they say wire harness should be 70-1858 But I think it should be 70-2002 that plugs in to the factory amp behind the glove box or lower in the Pass side floor.. If I remember right..Wire Color Radio 12V Orange Radio Ground Black Radio Ignition Dark Green Radio Illumination Brown Factory amp turn-on Pink (amp is behind glove box)LF Speaker +/- Tan-GrayRF Speaker +/- Light Green-Dark GreenLR Speaker +/- Brown-YellowRR Speaker +/- Dark Blue-Light Blue
Yeah, I don't plan on ever cutting anymore harnesses or plugs or anything, as for that adapter ^^ - WAY too expensive and I am not paying for OnStar anyway. I wonder if there's a way I can take OnStar out, but I have a feeling that'd be too much of a project. As for the 702002 plug, how long are the wires? The plug goes right into the amp I'm guessing? Then do I have to run the wires through the back of the dash and how much of a pain is that? I don't want to make it look like I also don't want to pay Best Buy so, I'll probably end up doing it anyway.THANK YOU GUYS.
Here I found this for you..So if my understanding following this thread is correct, there are three ways to wire in an aftermarket head unit.1. Aftermarket audio harness + attaching the radio amp wire to the pink wire on the small plug to trigger the amp.2. Aftermarket audio harness + bypass at the amp itself with the Metra 70-2002 harness [equivalent of the SCOSCHE INDUSTRIES GM04 or GM04B also known as AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL GWH-348]3. Aftermarket audio harness + bypass the amp itself and run new wiring to the speakers. If option #1 works why do people bother with option 2 [which is not that hard to do] or option 3?
Well then you better get in touch with me.. I will Pm you my Cell..I am already planing a GTG just south of there for Sat... So stay freee Sat Afternoon...
I already have plans that night. One of my friends is graduating this semester, and finals are next week. So, this weekend will probably be studying by day, partying by night. What was that someone say about powering the amp with the remote antenna wire? Will that work? I'm just gonna go out to my truck now and try it, all my classes are either getting out early or canceling it's awesome but I'll have to get to studying soon, so I'm gonna fidget while I can.
Here ya go. Hmmm i have a 02 avalanche..leather seats ect..from what i had in dash...two plugs..a big one with alot of wires..and a pretty small 2nd plug with i think it was 6 or 8 total wires..after wiring the big plug via a harness connector to my stereo..everything worked..but no sound...so i re-connected the factory only to the larg plug...everything worked..but no sound until i plugged in the 2nd small plug as well..so..the question is..what do i splice from the 2nd small plug intot he lrge after the harness connector? If more info is needed let me know..its now 130am and i had put the factory non mp3 player back in heh..till tomorrowConnect the "amp" wire from the new radio to the pink wire on the small plug. This turns on the factory amp. With mine, I simply stripped away just enough insulation to expose enough wire to attach the wire from the new radio. That way, it could easily be restored to stock condition in the future.
And As I said there is going to be a small GTG of Av owners up your way this Sat into Sunday.. 2 of us had 02 Av's We know the truck well... I pmed you my cell so if you want to join us and also get some great idea's.. Call me...
T Johns. I am forever in your debt for this. Pink is my new favorite color. That was the magic wire.
Also, wondering if you guys have any idea about Hypertech Max Energy Programmers. My brother has one for his '04 Silvy he got for a much better price than what I'm looking at on eBay. I'm thinking about trying to plug his chip into my truck. They have the same engine, so I don't see why it wouldn't work, just asking for any thoughts or warnings if I shouldn't do it...
