Sail Panel Leds on the 07+
« on: November 22, 2010, 12:39:06 PM »
I've got a member that has pm'd me a question about tying in behind the lights instead of the trailer harness. With the 2nd generation having the running lights and brake lights running to all 4 bulbs back there I'm asking if it's possible to do it behind the lenses. Anyone know?

Hmmm.... Think she did them at the harness.  That doesn't help then.

No running lights then. We're trying to accomplish all 3.

I am said member inquiring, I've since decided to just tie into the trailer harness and have gotten both sides working except I dont have turn signals or brakes and have a 330 ohm resistor soldered to a 1 amp diode and then another 1 amp diode all soldered together to make one connection to the fish wire, then I soldered the sole 1 amp diode to the dark green for right turn, and the 330 ohm/1amp diode to the brown wire for running lights, did the same for left side except used yellow wire...which is what gmupfitter.com says are the correct wire, so I can only deduce that it's my connections put together incorrectly causing my issue.... any help at all would be appreciated...and a big thanks to Ohiobellboy to getting me off the ground to begin with!

Just got back from picking up my daughter and replied to your PM.
Sounds like you followed the diagram to a T.

Ok the turns and brake lights are on the same wire in the harness to I'm suspecting something a bad connection. Do you have the running lights?

Only thing I can think of at the moment is maybe the diodes for the turns/brakes are backwards or they got too hot from the soldering and went bad.

I've got running lights no problem at all, I rechecked all connections and they look good enough to me, I may just settle for the running lights as I really don't feel like soldering new diodes and resistors together.

in regard to being possibly backwards, it goes my fish wire to the 330 ohm resistor which is connected to the 1 amp diode then that all connected to the brown wire

I have a separate 1 amp diode soldered to the connection above essentially making a Y that is obviously connected to the fish wire as well, and this is connected to the dk green wire for right and yellow for left

let me know if you've come up with anything else... PS is there an easier way to make the connections instead of soldering?

Can you see the stripe one the diode? Is it on the end of the diode closest to the wire going to the lights.
