Topic: 100watt HID bulb too hot for housing

i have a local seller here in fort wayne that sells 100 watt 8k HIDs.. i want to get a set for the highbeams  but im a little worried that it will melt the housing... i do use my highbeams quite often because i live out in the country.. wat are your thoughs?

50-70 tops in head lights  and 25-30 in fogs....

Trust me, you really don't need anything more than 55W in the headlights. I've got them in the fogs and they are much brighter than the 35W I have in my headlight low beam.

These are all H1 Bulbs, because there was a problem with some bulbs from DDM bulbs melting stuff, so  users tried to identify the source of why things were melting. It turns out, that it wasnt the bulbs doing it.

Yeah, I got promoted to a MOD there when they upgraded their forum because I helped in the migration/upgrade to the new forum system and the new owners thanked me with that promotion 0_o. I would've just posted the spreadsheet, but I wasnt sure on how the creator of it would fill, because in his spreadsheet he has links to the thread again.

Anyways, I think the user that is doing the heat testing, is going to do some UV testing later. I still cant believe that guy purchased so many bulbs. Some of the bulbs he has are also purchased directly from the manufacturers.

These measurements are measuring projectors, not reflectors. But you can still get an idea on how hot they get

I ran 80w in the lows and 100's in the highs (Halogen).  The 100's were fine as long as you didn't run them for a long time.  The lows melted my housings a little.  I was running 35w HIDs, I think.  More than enough light. 

Lows were 6000
Fogs were 3000
