Refinish Restorer for $30 a can
« on: October 04, 2010, 03:59:50 PM »
So I go walking into a local auto paint store today to try to find something to take the overspray off of my cladding and I see a can of RR on the shelf. I ask the guy a price, tells me $35  for the can. I asked him about a case price and he looks it up, says a case of 6 cans I can get for $30 a can +tax. We'll have to keep this in mind next time everyone wants to order some. His store about 2 hours away has 44 cans in stock.

If there is ever enough interest to buy some more, count me in :p

I'm ready for a new can myself.  After a couple liberal applications to get her ready for winter, I'm down to about an 1/8th of a can.  Let me know the next time you're gonna be in that area.  You know I'm good for it!!   :cheesy1:

I need a can...  What was let in mine went bad; not sure of it was age or the heat in the garage but now I need a new one.

Lets not forget if I would have to ship it to you what that would do to increase the cost everyone. Anyone in the Indy area that needs one should contact Sunburst05 and see what he wants for the partial can he has left after he sold his Avy.

So I'm thinking I might pick up a case before we head to OK for Heather's graduation. I'll update this again after I know for sure. I know I need a new can.

I'll take a can. Even with cost if you shipping it to me it will be cheaper. And I need one very badly.

Just let me know. Zip is 28079.

How many applications did you get out of 1 can. I'm going to hunt for some around Lansing while I'm down here.

I have about 7-8 applications on the WBH over the years, but have given more away than I have used.

Sure do, thanks. But just so you know, to get $1 US it only costs me $0.95 Cdn. That works out to $33.25 Cdn. It's been a few year since we could say that.   :dans2:

I knew I should have kept all those Canadian quarters I used to get on my paper route many years ago. I think back then the going rate was closer to 70C to 100US.

I'm wondering if this is anything like the product that we can get up here called Fast Wax.....They said it can remove road paint. (Love it when you switch lanes just after they painted the lines over night and you don't notice it until later.) They had a promotion and got 2 cans for $30. Figured when the weather stays nice for a few days I will give it a shot....(Wife's first if it works, then the Av.)

Stopped and ordered a case today. The guy would only knock 10% off so six cans came to $200.89 with tax. Call it $33.50 a can out the door. I was only able to get one can today and will pick up the rest next week. The name of the store is API. They have locations in OH and PA.

Meguairs' has a product called "Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant" for trim. I picked it up a few days ago to give it a try on my sails, saddle bags, and bed covers. It did a good job on bringing the plastic back to life it's about $10 bucks we'll see how well it holds up.

They do list a new product called "Ultimate Black" for trim but I haven't seen any on the shelves here yet.

Came out good. Let's see what happens after the first couple of times it gets rained on. I'm all for trying out products but the only thing I've used so far that doesn't run off is the RR.

Stopped and ordered a case today. The guy would only knock 10% off so six cans came to $200.89 with tax. Call it $33.50 a can out the door. I was only able to get one can today and will pick up the rest next week. The name of the store is API. They have locations in OH and PA.

Here's from the bottle:
"Shine & Protection that lasts & lasts! ? The ultimate in long-lasting UV protection ? Dries fast & is non-greasy ? Withstands washing & rain on trim without streaking No longer do you have to settle for protectants that last only days. Utilizing break-thru UV clear coat technology, Meguiar?s? Ultimate Protectant offers superior UV protection & shine that significantly outlasts conventional protectants. This powerful protectant creates rich shine & darkness on interior surfaces such as dashboard and door panels and brings new life to exterior trim and moldings.

I used the Meguairs' Ultimate Protectant to bring the Renegade light bar I put on the Avy a few months ago back to life from where it had been sitting out in the junk yard for over a year. So far it has held up very well, no streaking from the rain or washing the Avy and still looks as good as when I first applied it. That's why I decided to give it a try on the sails, saddles, and covers.

Update on the Meguairs Ultimate Protectant:
It's been through two rain storms and a wash by hand. It still looks as good as if I had just put it on. It's only a little over week old but so far this is the best readily available off the shelf product I have used. My Avy is white and I haven't seen any signs of it running after the rains or wash but that may be different on a darker color. Maybe a few other members could give it a try to get a better evaluation. I will continue to update how well it holds up before I have to reapply it.

This is truly some great stuff and not only for the Avalanche.  My girlfriend has an umbrella with a brown plastic base that sits on her patio which is almost a white color because it sits in the sun everyday.  I got out my can and wiped it down, it looks great but will probably need a second or third coat to look new again!

Happy wiping!!

Finally able to get some RR for my truck...found it on eBay here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160603692917&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

They have a buy it now option for 40 plus shipping, I made him an offer of 35 for a can plus shipping and he took it,just saying.
Once it arrives I'll have to do up my truck and post pics, actually my cladding isn't in too bad of shape except for the sail panels, don't know why they always go first on the Av...

Just got my can today after 3 months of waiting. The eBay shipper was a real pain to deal with I had to go through eBay to get my money back the first time. then found a second person several weeks after I got my money back, then ordered a can. once I placed that order and it didn't come again I email the person and It was the same person (autobodysupplyoverstock ) as before. But they told me they were moving and it was in the mail. it finally showed 3 weeks later!  going to put it on this week.

Just a heads up for members close to the Detroit area. I contacted the company that supplies Refinish Restorer, they say they have a distributer here in Windsor (Cross Canada). Once I get a chance to stop in I will get a price so I can post it. Not sure what it will be like getting across the border with it but I will look into that as well.

So I went in and they told me they discontinued selling it is now "Special Order" (I'm sure they can charge more now.) Still working on finding a distributer in the area.

there's a few places around our area i can check sometime.  of course, auto zones are an option, but one advance auto is still recovering from flood damage, napa, and theres this place called auto finishers, llc that i was originally going to obtain my body color in an aerosol.  ill definitely post if i find any.  thanks!

im wondering if i can or cannot just use some krylon fusion?  I plan on keeping the textured look, so i dont need my cladding professionally prepped, or anything like that.

im wondering if i can or cannot just use some krylon fusion?  I plan on keeping the textured look, so i dont need my cladding professionally prepped, or anything like that.

Jon

any thoughts on this?  We are going to have some last minute days with nice weather, and id like to know if we can get the ball rolling on this.  thanks.
