HID's for the Avy!
« on: September 27, 2010, 08:57:54 PM »
Hey guys planning on ordering some HID's for the avy but went on DDm website and well I am new to the HID's so need to know what I need here. I want to get HID's for my headlights and my fogs, mine is an 04 avy with cladding. On the site it asks for Wattage, Bulb Type, Bulb Color, HID Harness, Error Eliminator, and Adaptor cables, so what do I answer for all of these? Thanks for the help!

Lots of info here:
http://www.chevyavalancheclub.com/index.php/topic,5778.0.html

I'm trying to remember what bulbs mine are. I THINK 9006 for the lows and 880's for the fogs in the cladded. I've got the 6000 series for the lows (lots of light and not much blue) and I got the 3000's for the fogs. They're yellow :thumbup:  I didn't order the harness as I've had my lows in for a while now without any issues so I didn't bother with them. Some people like them for peace of mind though.

I'm still looking for the pix of mine with both in it.....

found them in the gallery.

This one shows both the lows and the fogs on. It's damn near impossible to get a good night shot head on. Keep in mind that my driveway slopes down so the low beams are being overpowered by the fogs.

Believe it or not, I just installed a set of 35W, 6K low beams in my truck last night. They've been sitting on the shelf ever since I bought the Vette and they didn't work when I tried to install them. I decided to try them on the Av since there's plenty of room to mess around with them; I ultimately determined that the polarity was reversed on the plug-in to the factory wire harness. All I can say is "HOLY CRAP". My 100W hi-beams look like dog poop compared to the HIDs.

Hey man, hope all has been going well.  We missed you at Bratfest this year.  Here is what I have learned when it comes to HID.

Cladded AVs 02-06: Low Beams = 9006, High Beams = 9005 & Fogs = 880
WBH AVs: Low Beams = 9006, High Beams = 9005 & Fogs = 9005

I put DDM Tuning HID in my lows, highs & fogs, they are awesome!!!  Don't know how I drove without HID? Below is whay I went with.
Lows = 9006, 35W, 5000k (the most white color)
Highs = 9005, 35W, 5000k
Fogs = 880, 35W, 5000k
I also went with the relay harnesses for all three, I like the added safety!

just curious of why you got hi-beam HID's of the same wattage and color? I find with low beam HID's there is no point in having highs. the lows are bright enough. from what you listed from the order you are going to have a separate ballast for the high beams as well. so if you try a flash to pass or flip the highs for a second your not going to have much light output, it takes about 30 secs for a ballast to completely warm up and put out. plus the constant turning on and off for the highs will ruin the ballasts. if you really want or need highs, you may want to look at getting the 9005/9006 hi/low combo kit which puts the highs and lows on one ballast.

not trying to throw you under the bus or anything bud, just some advise.

Hell Andy, I didn't even know they made such a thing. Now it's time for me to check that out as I'm still running the lame Silverstars in my high beams. Nice find. :thumbup:

I just installed DDM HID's this weekend for my headlights.  They look sick, I can't believe I went this long without HID's.  For $25 how can you go wrong.  Took less than 5 minutes to install. :thumbsup:

After I liked the HIDs I recently put in my lows I just ordered 55W 880 HIDs for my fog lights. I should be fairly blazing with the lows and fogs on!  :uglystupid2: The 55W system is supposed to be 40% brighter than the 35W system; I figured I'd spring for it since it only cost an extra $10.

I've got an 02 cladded - the fog light housings are huge. Heat won't be an issue. I believe it was the WBHs that had the smaller fog lights and heat issues. I've been running modified 80W hi bulbs in my lows and 100W hi bulbs in my headlight housings for several years now with no issues. I should have ditched them for the HIDs a long time ago!  buck2

Yeah, they list the 9004 and the 9007 bulb as a Hi/Low kit. Not sure if they will fit though. If I knew that they did I would have gone that route just so I could flash people who flash me cause of my lights  :crackup:

Those are called bi-xenon kits and no, they won't fit without some type of retrofit. They have three wires in the connector for the bulb and only one ballast. The low/hi setting comes from the bulb physically moving to change the focal point inside the reflector. I've got a set sitting at home waiting for my daughter to come home for a weekend so I can install them. Her 2002 Taurus lights suck, even after installing hi-wattage bulbs.

well I didn't find any reason to have highs. stick the HIDs in the lows and aim your headlights down some and your good to go IMO.

I should have ditched them for the HIDs a long time ago!  buck2

just another reason on why  :claddedrocks:   :thumbsup:
