What are the best tires anyone has found for their AV?
« on: September 22, 2010, 04:10:50 PM »
I'm kind of stuck on which tire to buy. I'm taking the 20" Chrome rims off and going to the 17" for the winter. I just want to get an idea of what is best for the Z71. I would do some off roading with the 17" but don't really want to sacrifice the comfort or gas mileage not the long trips. (I know 20" rims on a Z71 not my idea, previous owner who would never off road but wants all the bells and whistles.) But I am also looking to get the matching 20" later next summer.
Here are the ones that I'm looking at:

Michelin LTX A/T2

Bridgestone Dueller A/T RH-S

Firestone Destination A/T

Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor

Any help or experience with any of these tires would be greatly appreciated.

Im not too crazy about the Firestone or the Wrangler, I have the Bridgestone Duellers and have never tried the Michelin's. I don't do any off roading but have travelled across the country and I'm really happy with the Bridgestone.

I personally have always liked the Bridgestone Dueler Revos or just the plain Dueler's. Excellent all season and off roading tire and very quiet on the road. I have had them on all of our 4x4's and they normally last more than the 60,000 miles they are rated at.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

1) Bridgestone Dueler Revos
2) Michelin
3) None of the others

The Bridgestones are a really good all-around compromise tire.

I've got street tread Hankook 20s on my Z71; I'll be going back to all seasons, and most likely the Bridgestones, next time. The Hankooks are really good tires and saved me about $150 over the Bridgestones but I need at least a little off-road traction to get into my farm; they just aren't cutting it very well for that.

The Mrs thinks the Dueller ATs on her Suburban are too loud.

I run summer street performance tires most of the year - snow tires during winter.  I've got 2 Mastercraft mud/snow tires now, and I forget what the other 2 are - I haven't looked at them for months - but they are a better known brand than the Mastercrafts.

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

Last 3 set have been Nitto TG's.  Love them.  Great handling on-road and tough when hauling camper and minimal off-road trails that I do.

Hankook Atm's here. Quiet on the street, but has some aggressive tread for the dirt. I'm happy with them so far...

I've seen them but never tried them. We have a set of General Grabbers coming as a test tire for the Wife's Avy. Can't wait to see what those are like.

Funny thing about the new ones. I was out tire shopping for Twiggy's before this deal with General came through and one of the ones I looked at was the revo2. The guy at Walmart said a guy came back after running them 5 miles down the road on his F150 complaining of the noise.

Has anyone considered the Yokohama Pradis?  My Goodyear Eagle LS 2's hydroplane to the point of being dangerous.  Would different tire pressures affect the wet road performance.

Looking at changing tire size on 07 avalanche LT 4x4.  It is completely stock.  Anyone know how big of a tire I can go with?  At this time, there is no leveling kit on my avalanche.  Looking to beef up a little but worried about new tire rubbing on turns.

Follow up to my earlier question....

So right afterwards I picked up the Yokohama Geolanders to replace the OEM Goodyears.
The NE had a very bad snowy January and these tires performed EXCELLENT. Now came the hurricane and heavy rains the past few weeks and these tire never slipped or lost traction.

Excellent price for Excellent tires.

Wish i would have bought the black xd rims to go with these bad boys.

Well...thought it was sidewall.   specs list 10ply-load range.  Tires came in 4, 6, 8, or 10 in th epro series.

Any way, they've been pretty good in all conditions and road noise isn't bad considering the tread on them.

Yep, if you look closely, they say 10-ply rated. It's an equivalency to the old, non-radial tire ply ratings.
2002 LPM Z71, factory 4.10s - Magnacharger w/3" pulley, TOG's headers, 216/224-.551/.551-115 cam/pushrods/dual springs/titanium retainers, built tranny, Yank TT2600 stall converter, 24K GVW Tru-Cool tranny cooler,  Flex-A-Lites, ProCold intake, MSD wires & TR6 plugs, 20" Panther Juice 6's, 2.8" rear lowering springs & assorted hardware, J&J Enterprises stainless grille, body-color painted taillight covers. Self-tuned with HP Tuners software.

Cracked rear bumper cover from a run-in with a deer in fall 2008!

I bought Yokohama Geolander HT/S tires to replace a set of LTXs this summer. They are the best tires for ride and handling that I've ever run. I own a 2007 now and had a 2004. I've run Goodyear AT/S, Goodrich A/T, stock Generals (yuk), LTX, and the Geolanders.
