What would your offer be?
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:28:19 PM »
Found a truck...

2003
60,000 miles
Z71
Power Everything/Leather Heated Seats/Power Sunroof/BOSE
Black
Clean

Front shocks and rear pads changed and passed PA inspection.

Listed for $18,000 at a dealer

What would you offer?  $16,500?  $17,500?

Cheers!

I tend to buy and hold my vehicles, so I don't have a great deal of haggling experience, but I'd initially offer 16, hoping to end up at 17.

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

Personally I think that's kind of high but I'm not in the dealer business. Check out edmunds for comparible prices in your area. Kelly blue book seems to be high on their prices as I've never heard of anyone getting the price out of it they want.
Find out where they got there price from (Edmunds, KBB, NADA, outta thin air or whatever) and offer to split the difference between retail and trade-in value using that pricing system.  I wouldn't go higher than that offer myself and I've walked away without regret from vehicles using that rule of thumb.
The other thing is you have to place a value on the truck that you feel comfortable paying. You'll always find someone that will tell you that you paid too much and the person next to them saying you got a great deal.

Using the criteria you posted I went to KBB.com and did a quick look. (like I said earlier, KBB seems to be high)

SUGGESTED Retail Value is $18,025
Trade in Value is at    $12,750

over $5000 difference between the two. There should be plenty of wiggle room I would think.

Another thing to consider is how quickly Avys in your area move off the lot. If they don't stay around long, expect to pay more.

I agree with OBB.

IMO, based on your posted information and for whatever "its" retail value to may be to You.

The average dealer should have a wholesale "book cost" including a "lot fee" somewhere around;

Cladded.....8 - 8.5K

Naked.....8.5 -  9.5K

YES.....Cladded AV's are worth less than Naked AV's

Good to see you again importmonkey. Like was stated earlier, I'd start low hoping to get where you want to be.

I forget, are you trading in? If not, cash talks.

Thanks for the insight. I have a few contingencies on the sale that I valued higher than price. I need a fair trade for my magnum and I'm asking for $3000 cash back for a snug top. I guess with those cards I don't have great position. I at least have a comparison point for a model year newer but 12k miles more and $2k less.

Thanks again for all the input.and here I thought that price was pretty fair. It's been tough to find the exact one I've been looking for.

Cheers!

UPDATE:

Dealer was holding way too low for my trade in value and way too high for the sales price.  Back to the drawing board.

I found this really sweet for one sale think the owner will take 14000$ for it. I read it has 114,000 miles, fully loaded Z71 custom hood and stripes all ready has sailpanel leds custom caddy navigation, corsa sport exhaust, volant cold air intake
